A chair mat for carpet is only as good as its match to your carpet. Each mat is rated for a pile height, and a mat rated for flat or low pile may not suit thicker carpet. The underside matters too: cleats, spikes or studs anchor the mat into the fibers so it doesn't creep as the chair rolls.
